Viva La Fiesta

Sheffield

As part of our student life, we always seek for the best parties, the craziest nights out and the place to be in Sheffield. After 2 years in this city, there’s only one answer to that – VIVA LA FIESTA! I have experienced the best of what this organization can offer, last year as a regular party guest and now as part of the Team.

I still remember when I went to my first La Fiesta party; International Arabian night in Crystal, thinking that I was simply going to a usual International party. I found myself with the flag sticker of my country, a professional photographer taking pictures and videos of me and my friends dancing the night away to the very best international music. For all those of you, international party animals, where else in Sheffield have you danced to songs in your own language, from your own lands? This is what VIVA LA FIESTA is all about. From that night onwards, I have never missed any of their parties! I enjoyed my time with them so much that I decided I wanted to be part of their identity, by helping to organize and promote their parties to Sheffield’s wide International student community.

I can say it has been a wonderful experience:

- I have met hundreds of people from all over the world;

- I can say “Hi” in more than 8 languages now;

- I am gaining experience in sales and publicity and making new friends, while still having the chance to enjoy the parties. It is the perfect combination of work and fun!

This academic year, it all began with the FREE BBQ at Walkabout. We welcomed new ERASMUS and International students to Sheffield and what is better than FREE food? We grilled hundreds of burgers while our guests had the chance to socialize and chill out outside in the warm weather. After filling their tummies, the team took those in the mood for an after-party in Leeds!

The La Fiesta marathon had started with our first party being International Arabian nights at Crystal (another one). Arabian costumes, free shisha in the outdoor area and the marvelous performance of the Belly Dance Society from Sheffield Uni made it an amazing welcome back party. As well as the best DJ’s on the night.

This was followed by the revolutionary “Sheffield Uni vs Sheffield Hallam” party at Embrace, where we reached maximum capacity on the main room! It was fun to experience a friendly competition between the Universities and see who had the craziest students! We set-up a Team Fiesta beer challenge, as well as karaoke and hip hop dance for students from the crowd. It was certainly the party that I enjoyed the most so far, I’m sure most of you did too!

What was to follow Embrace? Nocturnal, now known as Forward, one of La Fiesta’s favourite venues! This time, the La Fiesta team got the chance to party along with all our guests in a FREE-before-midnight party! Queues were endless throughout the night and we featured several DJs including two of our team members, Luigi and Mbuso, and the incomparable Legendary Knights! These guys rocked the night out!

And to finish off the fun for October, we celebrated Halloween, La Fiesta-style, in Leadmill. Certainly the best Halloween parties in town! The scariest costumes, face painting, flags and the usual but with a Halloween twist: a Samba group came down from Manchester to perform for the crowd , free balloon drops and an amazing fire breathing performance at the end of the party! Yes!!! Don’t stop the party!!!

I am simply loving it. La Fiesta will make you feel at home in a special way: just keep an open mind like me and you will never regret coming here!!!

Looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year 2012!
